Getting around Sint Maarten
Privately run minibuses work the corridors between Philipsburg, Simpson Bay and Maho, frequently but to no published timetable, and the fares are low. Taxis run on government fixed rates rather than meters, so agree the fare before you set off; dispatchers are stationed at the A.C. Wathey cruise harbour, at Captain Hodge Square in Philipsburg and at Princess Juliana airport. On the buses, children under four and people over 65 travel free, and four to twelve pay half.
How it works
Minibuses, no timetable
They run often between Philipsburg, Simpson Bay and Maho, but there are no formal schedules — you wait at the roadside rather than for a departure time.
Who pays what on the bus
Children aged 0 to 3 ride free, as do people over 65 on showing identification. Children aged 4 to 12 pay half the adult fare.
Fixed taxi fares
Taxis work to government-set rates and carry no meter, so confirm the fare before the journey. Dispatchers sit at the cruise harbour, Captain Hodge Square and the airport.
Ferry to Saint-Barthélemy
Several companies sail daily from the Sint Maarten side to Gustavia, a crossing of about forty-five minutes.
