Getting around Puerto Rico

San Juan's public transport is run by the Autoridad de Transporte Integrado: the Tren Urbano light rail, sixteen stations open 5:30am to 11:30pm every day of the year, and thirty-two AMA bus routes. The standard bus fare is US$0.75, with two express routes at US$2.00. An ATI card carries you from the train onto a connecting bus free within two hours. Ferries from Ceiba to Vieques and Culebra cost US$2.00 to US$2.25 for an adult.

How it works

Tren Urbano

Sixteen stations across San Juan, Guaynabo and Bayamón, running every day of the year from 5:30am to 11:30pm.

AMA buses

Thirty-two routes — trunk, express, circulation and distribution. The standard fare is US$0.75; two express routes cost US$2.00.

One card, one journey

An ATI card gives a free transfer from the train to a connecting bus within a two-hour window, instead of two separate fares.

Ferries to the islands

From the Ceiba terminal to Vieques and Culebra: US$2.00 to US$2.25 for an adult, US$1.00 for children and for those aged 60 to 74, and free over 75.
