Old San Juan Historic District
Things to do · San Juan, Puerto Rico
Five centuries of history packed onto a small islet: blue cobblestone streets, pastel colonial houses with wrought-iron balconies, shaded plazas, and massive city walls linking two great fortresses. Founded in the early 1500s, it is one of the oldest European-settled cities under the U.S. flag and a UNESCO World Heritage-listed ensemble. Visitors wander between churches, museums, galleries and cafés, then walk the Paseo del Morro promenade at the base of the walls as pelicans glide over the bay.
