Mosquito Bay (Bioluminescent Bay)
Parks & Nature · Vieques, Puerto Rico
A mangrove-ringed bay on the south shore of Vieques where microscopic dinoflagellates light the water with a blue-green glow when it is disturbed — recognised by Guinness World Records as the brightest bioluminescent bay measured. Visits happen after dark with licensed operators in clear-bottom kayaks or electric boats, since swimming is not allowed and darkness protects the organisms. Moonless nights give the most vivid glow.
