Castillo San Felipe del Morro
Things to do · San Juan, Puerto Rico
The great 16th-century Spanish fortress guarding the entrance to San Juan Bay, its six levels of walls, tunnels, sentry boxes and lighthouse rising some 140 feet above the Atlantic. Part of the San Juan National Historic Site and the city's UNESCO World Heritage listing, El Morro rewards visitors with cannon-lined ramparts, harbour views and a huge grassy esplanade where families fly kites on breezy afternoons. The domed garitas along its walls have become a symbol of Puerto Rico itself.
