Balneario La Monserrate (Luquillo Beach)

Luquillo's classic public bathing beach, a long palm-fringed arc of golden sand on the northeast coast about an hour from San Juan. As a government-run balneario it has lifeguards, bathhouses, food kiosks and chair rentals, plus the Mar Sin Barreras area that helps wheelchair users get into the sea. The water is usually calm thanks to an offshore reef, making it a dependable family swimming spot with El Yunque's peaks as a backdrop.
