Getting around Cayman Islands

Grand Cayman's buses are run by the Public Transport Unit, and every route starts and ends at the depot on Edward Street in George Town. Each bus carries its route number in a coloured circle, and between them they reach every district. The average fare is CI$2 a journey, rising to CI$5 for anywhere beyond Hutland Road, such as Rum Point and Cayman Kai. Buses are not a point-to-point service; that is what the licensed taxis are for, and they work to a published fare chart. Traffic keeps to the left.

How it works

The Edward Street depot

Every Public Transport route starts and ends at the George Town depot on Edward Street, with an inspector on duty. Buses are identified by a number inside a coloured circle.

What a ride costs

About CI$2 a journey, and as much as CI$5 beyond Hutland Road for Rum Point or Cayman Kai.

Taxis work to a chart

The Public Transport Unit publishes a destination fare chart for up to four passengers — Owen Roberts airport to Margaritaville is $20, to Kimpton Seafire $34.

Driving here

Traffic keeps to the left. A visitor may drive on a valid overseas licence for six months before exchanging it for a local one.
