Getting around Saint Kitts & Nevis
Privately run omnibuses — minibuses licensed by the government — and taxis cover both islands, and ferries join them. Omnibus fares rose by up to EC$1.00 in November 2024, the first change in sixteen years. Passenger boats cross between Basseterre Pier and Charlestown Pier in 25 to 45 minutes at about EC$25 to EC$30 one way, and the Sea Bridge and iConnect car ferries carry vehicles across the Narrows between Major's Bay and Nevis.
How it works
Omnibuses
Minibuses are privately owned and licensed by the Traffic Safety and Public Service Drivers Board. Fares were adjusted by a maximum of EC$1.00 from 18 November 2024, after sixteen years unchanged.
Between the islands
Passenger ferries take 25 to 45 minutes between Basseterre Pier and Charlestown Pier. A one-way adult fare is EC$25 on iConnect and EC$30 on the other boats.
Taking a car across
The Sea Bridge car ferry runs Major's Bay to Cades Bay, and iConnect links Major's Bay with Charlestown Pier.
Water taxi to Oualie
A separate water taxi serves Oualie Bay in Nevis at EC$40 one way or EC$60 return.
