Getting around Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo runs on the state Metro and the Teleférico cable car, with OMSA buses working fixed corridors across the capital using standard, articulated and bi-articulated vehicles. The Metro, the cable car and the bus corridors share one integrated fare, so changing between them costs less than paying twice. The Corredor Independencia alone carries more than forty thousand passengers a day.

How it works

Metro and cable car

The Santo Domingo Metro and the Teleférico are run by the state and planned as one system, with Line 3 of the western cable car due to finish its first phase in December 2026.

OMSA corridors

OMSA is the public bus operator, running standard, articulated and bi-articulated buses along fixed corridors rather than open routes. Its first electric corridor is planned for the Colonial City in 2026.

One integrated fare

Metro, Teleférico and the bus corridors are fare-integrated, so a journey that changes between them is charged as one trip rather than several.
