Getting around Cuba

Travel between Cuban cities is mostly by coach, and Viazul is the operator visitors use; Varadero has its own Viazul terminal serving the main destinations. In Havana the Bus Turístico runs one route around the city and another out to the Playas del Este. Taxis work the streets of both cities: the state Cuba Taxi fleet, cocotaxis and the vintage almendrones in Havana, and in Varadero cars that all carry a meter.

How it works

Viazul between cities

For travel outside Havana, Viazul's coaches are the service most visitors use. Varadero has a dedicated Viazul terminal connecting the main destinations.

Havana's tourist bus

The Bus Turístico covers the city on one route and the eastern beaches on another.

Taxis in the city

In Havana you will find cars from the state Cuba Taxi agency alongside cocotaxis and the classic almendrones. In Varadero taxis are everywhere, waiting outside hotels or flagged in the street, and every car has a meter.
