Getting around Bonaire, Saba & St Eustatius

Three islands, three answers. On Bonaire, collective transport is carried by licensed bus drivers and individual or group journeys by licensed taxi drivers, under island ordinances dating from 1961 and 1962. Saba and Sint Eustatius are joined to each other, to Sint Maarten and to St Kitts by the Makana ferry, and Saba is served by a second boat, the Edge. Arrivals at Saba's port and airport are met by the island's taxi drivers.

How it works

How Bonaire licenses it

Bonaire treats public transport as collective transport, provided by licensed bus drivers, and taxi transport as individual or group transport. The two are regulated separately, under ordinances from 1961 and 1962.

The Makana ferry

The Makana links Saba, Sint Eustatius, St Kitts and Sint Maarten. Saba is served by two ferries in all: the Makana and the Edge.

Arriving on Saba

Taxi drivers meet the boats at Fort Bay and the flights at the airport, so there is a ride waiting rather than a timetable to read.
