Getting around Barbados

Barbados is one of the easiest islands to explore without a car. Government Transport Board buses, private minibuses and route-taxi vans (ZRs) run island-wide at a flat fare of BBD $3.50 per trip — pay as you board. Bridgetown's terminals connect every parish, and services run late on the busiest south- and west-coast corridors.

Buses, minibuses and ZRs

Blue Transport Board buses, yellow minibuses and white ZR vans all charge the same flat BBD $3.50 (about USD $1.75) anywhere on their route. ZRs are the fastest and the most local of the three — flag one down anywhere along its route.

Bridgetown terminals

Fairchild Street and Constitution River terminals serve the south and east; Princess Alice and Cheapside serve the north and west, with Speightstown terminal anchoring the north. Oistins and Probyn Street run as loading areas.

Taxis

Taxis are unmetered — agree the fare before you set off. Hotels and the airport post standard rates for common runs.

From the cruise port

Leaving the cruise terminal, a taxi dispatch service works from the Taxi Dispatch Centre; about 255 authorised taxis carry a coloured Authorised Seaport Taxi sticker on the side panel. Agree the price first, and check whether it is per person or per trip and in Barbados or US dollars. The walk to Bridgetown along Trevor's Way takes about twenty minutes.
