About Anguilla

Anguilla is a low coral island and UK overseas territory in the Leeward Islands, on the Eastern Caribbean dollar. It is flat, dry and about 26 kilometres long, with no rivers and a reputation resting almost entirely on its beaches and its restaurants.

Known for Shoal Bay, boat racing, beach bars, Eastern Caribbean dollar and no rivers.

Getting around

Most journeys in Anguilla are by taxi or hire car. Taxi fares are fixed by a published rate guide rather than a meter, and a driver's Transport Board licence costs EC$200 a year. Hiring a car means buying a temporary Anguillian licence — US$25 for three months, or US$15 for three days — and driving on the left. Ferries leave Blowing Point for Marigot on the French side of St Martin at US$30 one way, and less often for Philipsburg on the Dutch side at US$35.
