Soggy Dollar Bar

Food & Drink · Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands

A barefoot beach bar on White Bay famous as the birthplace of the Painkiller, the rum-coconut-pineapple-orange cocktail dusted with fresh nutmeg that it first mixed in the 1970s. With no dock on the bay, many guests anchor offshore and swim in, paying with the wet bills that gave the bar its name. Hammocks, sand floors and an unhurried pace have made it one of the Caribbean's best-known beach institutions.
