Gorda Peak National Park

Nature and outdoor places in the British Virgin Islands

Explore forest trails, tropical gardens, coastal rock formations, a natural sea pool and coral reefs across the British Virgin Islands.

These places bring together several sides of the islands’ outdoors, from forested mountain trails and garden paths to rocky shorelines and reef waters. They offer ways to explore on foot, swim or snorkel.

  1. Gorda Peak National Park

    Parks & Nature, Virgin Gorda

Marked trails climb through one of Virgin Gorda’s last remaining stands of Caribbean dry forest to a summit lookout. Walkers may spot orchids, hummingbirds and tiny geckos along the way.

  2. J.R. O'Neal Botanic Gardens

    Parks & Nature, Tortola

In central Road Town, shaded paths pass collections of indigenous and exotic tropical plants, including orchids, palms and cacti. Benches and a pergola walk make it a quiet place to pause.

  3. Sage Mountain National Park

    Parks & Nature, Tortola

Trails on Mount Sage wind through forest of ferns, mahogany trees and elephant-ear plants. Clearings open onto views over Tortola’s coastline and the surrounding islands.

  4. The Baths National Park

    Things to do, Virgin Gorda

A marked trail threads among the enormous granite boulders on Virgin Gorda’s southern shore, passing grottoes, tunnels and tidal pools before reaching Devil’s Bay. The clear water suits swimming and snorkelling.

  5. The Bubbly Pool

Parks & Nature, Jost Van Dyke

Near Diamond Cay, waves surge through a narrow gap in the rocks and foam in a natural sea pool. On calmer days, the pool offers a gentler, lagoon-like soak.

  6. Wreck of the RMS Rhone

    Things to do, Salt Island

The wreck of the RMS Rhone lies in a protected marine park off Salt Island. Coral-encrusted sections shelter eels, lobsters and reef fish, and snorkellers can see the shallower stern from the surface.

  7. Loblolly Bay

    Beach, Anegada

Loblolly Bay faces Horseshoe Reef, with coral heads just offshore for snorkelling. Its wide sandy shore on Anegada’s north coast is a place to swim and spend time by the water.
