Fort George

Things to do · Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago

Built in 1804 on a ridge high above St. James, this hilltop fort rewards the winding drive with sweeping views over Port of Spain, the Gulf of Paria and, on clear days, the mountains of Venezuela. Cannons, thick stone walls and a signal station said to have been designed by an exiled West African prince survive on the breezy grounds. It is a favourite late-afternoon spot for photographs as the city lights come on.
