A vast mangrove wetland just south of Port of Spain and the roosting home of the scarlet ibis, one of Trinidad and Tobago's national birds. Late-afternoon boat tours glide through mangrove channels before flocks of brilliant red birds stream in to roost at sunset. The swamp is a Ramsar-protected site rich in herons, egrets, caimans and tree boas.
