The capital of the Turks and Caicos and its oldest permanent settlement, founded by Bermudian salt rakers in 1681. Front Street, Queen Street and Duke Street preserve a walkable mile of Bermudian-style colonial buildings in whitewashed limestone, alongside the National Museum, St Mary's Anglican Church and old salt ponds. Wandering the waterfront lanes gives a feel for the islands' salt-trade centuries that no other town offers.
