Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral-Basilica
Things to do · Paramaribo, Suriname
A soaring twin-towered cathedral built almost entirely of unpainted Surinamese cedar, often cited as the largest wooden structure in the Western Hemisphere. Completed in the 1880s and thoroughly restored between 2007 and 2010, it was raised to the rank of minor basilica in 2014. Step inside to see the warm, honey-coloured timber interior and the tomb of the missionary priest Petrus Donders.
