Colakreek

Beach · Para, Suriname

A blackwater creek in the white-sand savanna near Zanderij whose tea-dark water, coloured by plant tannins, gave it its name. Sandy banks, swimming spots, picnic huts and water slides have made it a beloved day-trip and school-holiday destination since the recreation site was first laid out in the 1940s. The pale sand and clear dark water make for a swim quite unlike a sea beach.
