Central Suriname Nature Reserve
Parks & Nature · Sipaliwini, Suriname
A vast expanse of untouched rainforest covering about 1.6 million hectares of the country's interior, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Its best-known corner is Raleighvallen on the Coppename River, where visitors climb the bare granite dome of the Voltzberg at dawn and look for cock-of-the-rock birds and eight monkey species. Trips run by boat and small plane, with simple lodges near the rapids.
