Soufrière Hills Volcano

Parks & Nature · Saint Anthony Parish, Montserrat

The volcano that reshaped Montserrat, its lava dome rising to around 1,050 metres above the island's closed southern zone. Its eruptions from 1995 buried the capital Plymouth, and today the mountain smoulders quietly at low activity under constant scientific watch. Visitors view it safely from the Montserrat Volcano Observatory, Jack Boy Hill or Garibaldi Hill, or from the sea on west-coast boat tours; the summit area itself is inside the exclusion zone and off limits.
