The scientific station at Flemmings above Salem that has monitored the Soufrière Hills volcano since the eruption began, set on a ridge with a direct view across to the dome. A self-guided weekday visit takes in interactive monitoring exhibits, an hourly documentary on the eruption, a gift shop and an observation deck with sweeping views towards the volcano, the Belham Valley and Plymouth. It is the best single stop for understanding how the eruption transformed the island.
