Montagne Pelée

Parks & Nature · Saint-Pierre, Martinique

The 1,396-metre active volcano that dominates northern Martinique, infamous for the 1902 eruption that destroyed the town of Saint-Pierre. Well-marked trails, including the Aileron route from Morne-Rouge and the Grande Savane route from Le Prêcheur, climb through cloud forest to the caldera rim, with sweeping views over both coasts when the summit clears. Since 2023 the volcano and the forests of the northern pitons have been a UNESCO World Heritage site.
