Mémorial Cap 110 (Anse Caffard)
Things to do · Le Diamant, Martinique
Fifteen massive white stone figures by artist Laurent Valère stand shoulder to shoulder on a grassy headland above Anse Caffard, heads bowed toward the sea. Erected in 1998 for the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery, the memorial honours the victims of an 1830 slave-ship wreck on this coast and of the slave trade as a whole. The free, always-open site also gives a fine view of Diamond Rock offshore.
