Castries Central Market

Things to do · Castries District, Saint Lucia

The capital's public market, housed in a Victorian iron structure built in 1891 by the Liverpool engineering firm Bruce & Still and opened to traders in 1894. Hundreds of vendors sell spices, tropical fruit, hot pepper sauces, handmade crafts and cooked local dishes, with Saturdays the busiest as farmers come in from across the island. It is the easiest place to experience everyday Saint Lucian life, just a few streets from the harbour.
