Independence Square, Basseterre
Things to do · St Kitts, Saint Kitts and Nevis
The historic heart of the capital, a garden square laid out in the 1750s and renamed for the nation's independence in 1983. A central fountain, lawns and old townhouses surround it, with the Co-Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on its eastern side. Interpretive traces of its sobering past as a slave market remain, making it a meaningful stop on a walk through Basseterre.
