Sans-Souci Palace

Things to do · Hispaniola, Haiti

The ruined royal palace of King Henry Christophe stands at the foot of the Citadelle trail in Milot, sharing the same UNESCO World Heritage designation. Completed in 1813 and toppled by an earthquake in 1842, its grand staircases, arches and terraced gardens still convey the ambition of newly independent Haiti. Most visitors wander the palace grounds for an hour or two before continuing up the mountain to the fortress.
