Monument des Héros de Vertières
Things to do · Hispaniola, Haiti
On the south-western edge of Cap-Haïtien, this open-air monument marks the field where the Battle of Vertières was fought on 18 November 1803, the final engagement that sealed Haiti's independence. Bronze figures of the revolution's heroes rise above the roadside site, which fills with ceremonies each Vertières Day. It is a short but powerful stop between the city and the road to Milot.
