Jacmel Historic Centre
Things to do · Hispaniola, Haiti
Jacmel's old town is a grid of nineteenth-century merchant houses with iron balconies, mosaic-tiled stairways and artisan workshops, earning the seaside city its reputation as Haiti's cultural capital. Papier-mâché masks made for its famous carnival hang in galleries year-round, and a seafront promenade links the historic streets to the water. The district rewards a slow afternoon of wandering between studios, cafés and faded gingerbread facades.
