Haiti beaches for swimming and a day by the sea
Four Haitian beaches offer swimming, shoreline walks, seafood and time on the sand.
These four beaches offer different ways to spend a day by the sea, from shallow water and food stalls to a small islet reached by boat. The guide includes spots on Haiti’s north, south and west coasts.

Near Cap-Haïtien, this curve of golden sand has calm, clear water for swimming, a beachfront restaurant serving Haitian seafood and a shoreline to walk at sunset.
Gelée Beach
Beach, Sud Department
Just outside Les Cayes, the long, flat beach has shallow, warm water for easy swimming. Stalls along the treeline serve fried fish, lambi and fritay.
Île-à-Rat (Amiga Island)

Boats bring day-trippers to this small islet in Baie de l’Acul, where turquoise shallows are suited to snorkelling and coconut palms offer shade for picnics.
Kokoye Beach

Reached by boat or hillside hike, this secluded cove near Petit-Goâve has calm, waist-deep water for swimming, snorkelling and paddling. Local hosts arrange seafood meals and simple beach camps.
