This soaring palm-thatched benab in Kingston, Georgetown was first raised in 1972 by Wai Wai builders for the Non-Aligned Movement conference, its name meaning 'meeting place of the people'. Rebuilt in traditional style after a 2014 fire, the current structure again hosts exhibitions, ceremonies and cultural events beneath its cone of thatch. It stands beside the African Liberation Monument and is gazetted as a national monument.
