St. George's Cathedral
Things to do · Demerara-Mahaica, Guyana
Rising 43.5 metres over central Georgetown, this Gothic Revival Anglican cathedral is claimed as one of the tallest wooden churches in the world, built almost entirely of native greenheart timber and opened in 1892. Inside, white-painted arches, stained glass and a chandelier gifted by Queen Victoria reward those who time their visit for services or a guided look around. It remains an active cathedral and a designated national monument.
