Shell Beach
Beach · Barima-Waini, Guyana
Shell Beach is a remote, protected stretch of Atlantic coast in Guyana's far northwest where the sand is made largely of crushed seashells. Between roughly March and August, four species of sea turtle, including giant leatherbacks, haul out at night to lay their eggs, watched over by community rangers from nearby Indigenous villages. Reaching it involves a boat journey through mangrove channels, which is part of the adventure.
