Kaieteur Falls
Parks & Nature · Potaro-Siparuni, Guyana
Deep in Kaieteur National Park, the Potaro River pours off a sandstone plateau in a single sheer drop of about 226 metres, several times the height of Niagara. Most visitors arrive on a small plane from Georgetown and walk a series of viewpoints right up to the lip of the gorge. The surrounding rainforest hides tiny golden frogs living in giant bromeliads, and swifts wheel through the spray at dusk.
