Hubert 'German' Urling opened this New Market Street institution around 1960, and its from-scratch creole cooking, above all the cow-heel soup, is the stuff of local legend. Locals, expats and visitors squeeze in for generous plates of pepperpot, garlic pork and daily specials made with fresh market ingredients. More than six decades on it is still going strong, even buying up a second city property in 2025 to expand.
