A 19th-century fort crowning the hill above Terre-de-Haut's bay in Les Saintes, owned by the Guadeloupe department. Inside, a museum covers island life and the naval Battle of the Saintes, while the ramparts hold a dry garden of cacti and succulents where iguanas sun themselves. The panorama over the bay, regularly ranked among the world's most beautiful, is the reason most people make the climb.
