Distillerie Damoiseau
Food & Drink · Grande-Terre, Guadeloupe
Grande-Terre's last working rum distillery, run by the Damoiseau family since 1942 on the old Bellevue estate outside Le Moule and producer of Guadeloupe's best-known agricole rum. During the cane harvest visitors can watch the crushing mills and column stills at work — the distillery asks you to phone ahead to book a visit — and its Cabane à Rhum shop offers tastings of whites, aged rums and punches year-round. It is a straightforward, authentic look at how sugar cane becomes rhum agricole.
