Guadeloupe beaches for swimming and a day by the sea
Four beaches offer different ways to spend a seaside day, from reef-sheltered lagoons to a broad Caribbean shore.
These beaches range from calm, shallow bays suited to wading and swimming to a long, open stretch where the water can carry some swell. Each also has its own setting, from picnic tables beneath trees to casual eateries near the sand.
Plage de Grande Anse (Deshaies)
Beach, Deshaies
This long golden-sand beach has room to spread out and casual Creole restaurants at its edge. The open Caribbean can bring some swell, so families often stay near the calmer ends.
Plage de la Caravelle
Beach, Sainte-Anne
A reef shelters the shallow, turquoise lagoon, making for calm, waist-deep swimming. Sea-grape and coconut trees shade the white sand, and the beach connects by a walk around the point to Sainte-Anne's town beach.
Plage de la Feuillère
Beach, Capesterre-de-Marie-Galante
A coral reef keeps the lagoon calm and swimmable along this long strip of fine white sand. Families can settle under the palms, while a handful of low-key eateries sit behind the beach.
Plage de Pompierre
Beach, Terre-de-Haut
Roches Percées shelter this horseshoe bay from the open sea, leaving shallow, glassy water for wading and gentle snorkelling. Picnic tables under the trees make it a place to linger by the shore.
