Los Haitises National Park

A large protected landscape of mangrove channels, mushroom-shaped karst islets and seabird colonies on the Bay of Samaná. Boat tours thread through the mangroves and stop at caves where Taíno petroglyphs and pictographs are still clearly visible. Frigatebirds, pelicans and the rare Ridgway's hawk nest among the humid forest and limestone hills.
