Fortaleza San Felipe
Things to do · Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
A squat 16th-century Spanish fortress on a headland guarding Puerto Plata's harbour, among the oldest European military structures still standing in the Americas. It later served as a prison and now houses a small museum with cannons, colonial artifacts and multilingual audio guides. The ramparts give wide views over the Atlantic with Mount Isabel de Torres as a backdrop.
