Indian River

Licensed boatmen row visitors slowly up this shaded river near Portsmouth, beneath a tunnel of bwa mang trees whose buttress roots twist down into the dark water. Herons, crabs and iguanas appear along the banks, and guides share stories of the river's wildlife and its cameo in Pirates of the Caribbean. A riverside bush bar at the turnaround point serves refreshments before the quiet drift back to the mouth.
