The oldest quarter of Willemstad, whose candy-coloured Dutch colonial waterfront along the Handelskade is the island's signature image. The district's narrow streets mix 17th- and 18th-century architecture with shops, cafés, street art and a floating market, all part of the UNESCO World Heritage inner city inscribed in 1997. It is best explored on foot, crossing to Otrobanda over the pontoon bridge.
