Trinidad and Plaza Mayor
Things to do · main island of Cuba, Cuba
Founded in 1514 and made wealthy by sugar, Trinidad is Cuba's best-preserved colonial town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cobbled lanes climb between pastel houses to the Plaza Mayor, ringed by mansions-turned-museums and a landmark bell tower, while musicians play on the famous steps by the Casa de la Música each evening. The surrounding Valle de los Ingenios adds old sugar estates and a lookout tower to explore.
