Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca (El Morro de Santiago)

Things to do · main island of Cuba, Cuba

A UNESCO-listed 17th-century fortress stacked in stone terraces on a clifftop at the narrow entrance to Santiago de Cuba's bay. Built to fend off pirates, it now houses exhibits on piracy and colonial defence, and its ramparts give long views over the Caribbean. It is regarded as the most complete surviving example of Spanish-American military engineering of its era.
