Playa Ancón

Cuba beaches for swimming and seaside days

From calm shallows to long stretches of pale sand, these Cuban beaches offer room to swim, relax and enjoy the coast.

These four beaches span Cuba’s main island, Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Largo del Sur. Their descriptions highlight calm or shallow water for swimming, with options including nearby reefs, boat trips and simple beach facilities.

  1. Playa Ancón

    Beach, Sancti Spíritus Province

On the Ancón Peninsula, this roughly four-kilometre stretch of pale sand has usually calm, clear water. Boat trips head to nearby reefs for snorkelling, and quieter sections lie along the curve.

  2. Playa Pilar

    Beach, Ciego de Ávila Province

At Cayo Guillermo’s western end, Playa Pilar pairs white sand and shallow, glassy water with some of the Caribbean’s tallest sand dunes. A beach grill and boat trips to nearby sandbars add options for a day by the water.

  3. Playa Sirena

Beach, Isla de la Juventud Special Municipality

This wide beach on Cayo Largo del Sur has calm shallows and gentle water suited to swimmers and families. A beach restaurant, showers and loungers provide simple facilities.

  4. Varadero Beach

    Beach, Matanzas Province

Varadero’s long stretch of soft white sand meets calm, shallow turquoise water that makes swimming easy. The peninsula also has public beach access, watersports and leafy Josone Park.
