Great Blue Hole

Parks & Nature · Belize District (Lighthouse Reef Atoll), Belize

A giant flooded sinkhole in the middle of Lighthouse Reef Atoll, over 300 metres across and famously visible from the air as a deep-blue circle ringed by turquoise reef. Divers descend past ancient stalactite formations, while snorkellers explore the vivid coral rim, usually on full-day boat trips that also stop at Half Moon Caye. It sits within the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System World Heritage Site.
