Deep in the Chiquibul Forest, Caracol is the largest known Maya city in Belize, once home to an estimated 100,000 people or more. Its great pyramid Caana, the 'sky palace', remains the tallest man-made structure in the country, and the sprawling plazas, causeways and tombs are usually shared with more wildlife than people. The long jungle drive from San Ignacio is part of the expedition feel.
