Fort Charlotte
Things to do · New Providence (Nassau), Bahamas
Nassau's largest fort, built in 1789 by Lord Dunmore and named for the wife of King George III, complete with a waterless moat, dungeons, underground passages and rows of cannon that were never fired in anger. Its hilltop ramparts a mile west of downtown give a sweeping view over the harbour and Paradise Island. Guides lead visitors through the tunnels, and costumed living-history scenes run on set days.
