St. Eustatius Historical Foundation Museum
Things to do · Oranjestad, Caribbean Netherlands
Set in the 18th-century Simon Doncker merchant house — briefly the headquarters of British Admiral Rodney after his 1781 raid — this museum tells the story of Statia's improbable golden age, when the tiny island was one of the busiest free ports in the world. Exhibits range from pre-Columbian pottery to relics of the sugar and shipping trades, and the foundation also organises guided walking tours of historic Oranjestad.
